Pastor Our pastor, the Reverend Bonnie Bates, has been with us since February 2009. We are the fourth church she has served. Pastor Bonnie has a Master's of Divinity from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. She also has a Master of Arts in Human Resource Development and a Bachelor of Arts in Organization Management. Pastor Bonnie has 25 years experience in non-profit management and has served five churches. Pastor Bonnie is available for pastoral counseling, weddings, funerals, baptisms, and spiritual development. She is in the office on Thursday and Friday from 9:00 AM until Noon or by appointment. Worship Worship times vary depending on the time of year. From September through June, we worship at 10:15 AM. During the summer we worship in partnership with Churchill United Methodist Church and the worship time is 9:30 AM. At Faith United Church of Christ, worship is a moderately casual experience. The dress tends to be business casual. Suits and ties, dresses and heels are not required, but certainly acceptable. We enjoy greeting each other in the narthex (entryway) and sharing the events of the week. Name tags are provided for members, friends, and guests. A guest books is provided for guests to sign in. We don't pursue people, but we would like to follow-up with guests to find out how they enjoyed the church and what brought them to us. Our worship service is a blend of traditional and contemporary worship music and elements. Communion is served nine times a year and is usually served by our deacons. The length of worship tends to be around an hour, although special presentations, communion, or baptisms can lengthen the service time. Church School Regular Sunday School classes for those 3 years of age and older is offered each Sunday from September through June. Additionally, Confirmation classes, Adult Bible Study, and Newcomer's Gatherings are offered periodically. Sunday School classes tend to be informal and all are welcome to attend for one session or each week. Youth Group Faith United Church of Christ has a youth group for youth in grades 7-12. The Youth Group has a lot of fun snowtubing in the winter, attending Bandits' games, working with the younger children, and offering their outreach support to the community through work at the soup kitchen and the semiannual Children's Clothing Exchange. More information about current youth events can be found on the Youth Group page of this web site. Missions Faith United Church of Christ has a reputation as being a committed church whose focus is on our own preparation and then our service to the wider community. We participate with Love In The Name of Christ, Churches In Action and other local mission groups. The Outreach section of this web site will give you additional information about the mission projects of the church. Worship often includes updates and information about our current mission projects. Finances Faith United Church of Christ is supported through tithes, pledges, and gifts of our members and friends. We do not hold church fundraising events, although the youth group does some activities to raise money for their activities. Copies of our budget and current expenditures are available on the bulletin board outside the church office. Offerings are collected in Sunday School classes and each Sunday during worship. Envelopes can be obtained from the church office. Faith participates in the five offerings for the United Church of Christ: Our Churches Wider Mission, which supports the conference and national church; One Great Hour of Sharing, collected during lent which supports global mission work; Strengthen the Church, which provides support for church development and revitalization; Neighbors in Need, which supports national and local disaster and mission projects; and the Christmas Fund, which provides additional supports to retired clergy. |
